Healthcare

Every Ohioan deserves accessible, affordable, high-quality healthcare—regardless of income, location, or age. As your representative, I will fight to strengthen our healthcare system, protect vulnerable patients, support frontline workers, and ensure no one faces bankruptcy or denial of care due to costs or barriers.
-
Champion safe nurse staffing standards in hospitals (building on efforts like the Nurse Workforce and Safe Patient Care Act) to establish registered nurse-to-patient ratios, create nurse-led staffing committees, and improve working conditions—reducing burnout, enhancing patient safety, and addressing Ohio's nursing shortages for better hospital care statewide.
-
Create a loan-to-grant pipeline for Ohio nursing students by establishing or expanding state-funded loan programs that convert to full grants after graduates commit to working as nurses in Ohio for five years—removing financial barriers to entry, encouraging more people to pursue nursing careers, and helping retain skilled nurses in our communities to address the ongoing nursing shortage and improve patient care.
-
Cap out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35 per month for all Ohioans, ensuring life-saving diabetes treatment remains affordable—opposing price gouging and supporting families who rely on insulin to manage this chronic condition without financial hardship.
-
Increase funding and oversight for the Ohio Department of Aging to expand in-home care services, support direct care workers with better wages/training, strengthen nursing home quality monitoring and abuse prevention, and implement recommendations from recent task forces—helping seniors age with dignity at home while improving long-term care safety.
-
Protect and expand access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment, including more funding for community behavioral health services, crisis intervention, and integration in primary care—addressing rising demands, reducing emergency room burdens, and ensuring timely care amid ongoing opioid and mental health challenges.
-
Support rural hospitals by advocating for stable funding, opposing harmful Medicaid cuts that threaten closures and access in underserved areas, and promoting investments in workforce recruitment and telehealth—keeping essential care close to home for rural Ohio families.
